Acne is a skin disorder that normally affects teenagers or adolescents. Many attribute this condition to the raging hormones in a teen's body. This inflammatory skin disorder is primarily caused by the hair follicle and the oil gland that comes with it. Lesions and inflammation occur in areas where the sebaceous glands produced too much oil in addition to an accumulation of other impurities. Excessive shedding of skin which sometimes happens during puberty may also contribute to the creation of acne.

The treatments of acne aim to control and manage the production of excessive oil, the hormone imbalance, and the symptoms of acne. If you address the causes of acne directly, then you do not have to experience the scars and other skin disfigurements that may come with severe acne. If some one only has mild or even moderate acne they will have very little or no permanent scarring once the acne is resolved. If you were unfortunate enough to have a sever case of acne you will almost certainly have some scarring. In the past if you had acne scarring there was very little that could be done but now there are ways to minimize scarring and even existing scars can be removed.
Pimples almost always leave behind a darkened spot of skin, this is not truly a scar and should clear up on it's own with in a year. Any mark that lasts for more than a year is a true scar.

Active treatment will help avoid scarring but it is vitally important that you do not do anything to increase the damage and cause scarring that can be avoided.
